Strychnine Notice

We have just received an update from AgroMax Distributers Inc., the manufacturer for 2% Liquid Strychnine Concentrate (LSC). The technical strychnine product needed to produce the 2% LSC comes from India and they have again extended their COVID-19 lockdown until the end of June. (Further lockdown extensions are possible). This means that the M.D. of Wainwright will probably not receive our remaining Strychnine orders until mid to late July at the earliest.

We ask that farmers that are not already on the waiting list and are still requiring 2% Liquid Strychnine Concentrate phone the M.D. office and have their names placed on the waiting list.

Farmers needing immediate solutions for Richardson Ground Squirrel control should contact their Agricultural Product Retailers for registered alternative control options such as Rozol RTU products.

Aspen Leaf Roller & Bruce Spanworm

The M.D. of Wainwright has seen outbreaks of Aspen Leafrollers and Bruce Spanworm over the past couple of years. Normally, when outbreaks occur the affected tree is able to grow a new flush of leaves after the insects have completed their life cycle. However, when outbreaks occur consecutively with one or more defoliating insects it can weaken trees causing them to become more susceptible to other disease and insects leading to tree mortality. Control options for defoliating insects are limited. Smaller trees may be treated with a horticulture oil or soap and water. It is important to keep your trees healthy by doing regular tree maintenance.
